Greek Temples at Paestum

We have now travelled to Paestum on the Cilento Coast and we are staying at Portasirena for one more night before moving on to Casale Giancesare for the remainder of our holiday.

We woke up to a beautiful sunny morning - threw open the windows to this: 

The surroundings are glorious.  There are mountains all around in a beautiful location.  We had breakfast by the pool which was lovely.  It was great service and great food.  We decided to chill by the pool for a while this morning - and we had it all to ourselves.

Hmmm -don't know what's so interesting in there lol??

We then drove to the sea and had a little paddle (after having a cheeky beer by the pool)

We then went for lunch and to see Paestum's Temples.  This is a Unesco World Heritage Site and the temples are among the best-preserved Greek temples in Italy.  We had lunch at a small restaurant across the road from the temples - along with a couple of beers while we people watched and put the world to rights lol.

The temples are absolutely amazing - not heaving with people either. It’s really peaceful and absolutely definitely worth a visit.  

Make sure you have plenty of time to wander - and take a hat and a drink!

We returned to Portasirena for a shower and change and tonight we drove up the mountain to a restaurant called La Cantina Ristorante Pizzeria Braceria that we found on Trip Advisor.  We like to find restaurants where the locals eat and this was definitely that - no one spoke English and the menu was all Italian.  However, we muddled through and we had a beautiful steak  - and no prizes for guessing what I had for pudding - yes - Tiramisu - and it was amazing.  We loved it here and would highly recommend it if you like somewhere off the beaten track and want to enjoy fabulous Italian food.

The one thing I would say about where we are staying in Paestum is that you really do need to have a car - even like tonight - we couldn't have got to this restaurant without some transport and there are so many places to visit.  There are such beautiful little villages along the Cilento Coast and the Cilento National Park, which is the second-largest national park in Italy, where you can drive up into the mountains, visit the grottoes - so you do need to be ok with the driving.

Anyway, loved the restaurant tonight - time to go - but one for the road first - got to have a Limoncello to end the evening - it's the law!!!
