Cruise to Bollington & Walk up to White Nancy

Sunday 8th September 2019

Today we cruise to Bollington.  We have really enjoyed our stay in Macclesfield on the visitor pontoon, but as today is lovely and sunny, we are moving on.  The weather forecast for the next day or two is not good, so we will hunker down and get the fire lit.

The scenery along this canal continues to be absolutely beautiful.  Almost as soon as we left our mooring and went under the next bridge it was like we were nowhere near the town!

Everyday we still have to pinch ourselves that we are so lucky to have this wonderful life, full of lovely new adventures every day. 

Adelphi Mill

Once used as a silk mill and is now converted to offices.

The White Nancy monument was erected by the Gaskell family in the 19th century to commemorate the Battle of Waterloo.  Apparently, the son was in the Battle of Waterloo and the monument would enable him to always find his way home.  I'm not sure if this is true, but that's what we were told by a couple of locals.

As we had a little wander up the canal, I bought a bracelet and lovely book mark from a trading canal boat.  We then went to The Vale Inn and sat outside in the sunshine and watched cricket.  Well, Paul watched the cricket!  The Vale Inn is a great pub, with a good selection of real ale and the food looked delicious.

 Walk Up to White Nancy

Tuesday afternoon was lovely and sunny so we decided to walk up to White Nancy.  It was a 3 mile walk in total and we really enjoyed it. Paul took his drone up and got some great footage - one day he might even put it on u-tube!

This was a much easier walk than climbing up the Cloud, but still had amazing views from the top.

I think that tomorrow we will be moving on again.  Chan’s coming on Friday with Winnie and we are hoping to get a mooring at Bugsworth Basin on the Peak Forest Canal.
